If you have been paying attention to the news for the past 10 years or so intellectual property rights have taken center stage in the national and international arenas. The headlines are littered with stories that all relate to intellectual property issues. Copyrights are at the center of the peer to peer, downloading, Digital Rights Management, software licensing battles and multibillion dollar lawsuits that continue to rage on today. Trademarks dominate issues over Meta Tags, key word advertising, domain names, Cyber squatting and more. Patents are filed everyday covering new internet business methods and business processes.

This new access to information and the free floating attitude of the internet also lends itself to greater possibilities of infringements on intellectual property rights. People often see images they like in the internet and copy them to be used in their own site, often times without knowledge that they are committing copyright infringement. Pirated, illegal copies of songs, albums, and even TV shows and movies appear on the internet, sometimes even prior to their release to the main stream markets. What seems to be a good idea of purchasing a domain name similar to your closest competition in order to skim off some sales turns out to be trademark infringement. All of the above mentioned items are a daily occurrence in business today.

As we always tell clients - all businesses have intellectual property in some form or another and more than likely the showdown between you and a competitor is going to take place on the internet in some form or another. Make sure you are prepared and be ever vigilant in protecting what's yours. We can help you do just that.
